“Life is hard. Then you die. Then they throw dirt in your face. Then the worms eat you. Be grateful it happens in that order.” David Gerrold
Every now and then my husband and I play a game called, “Who Got the Most Packages This Week!” Yes, we’ve fallen prey to the “Buy with one Click” mania. My packages generally contain books or art supplies. I now know that I will never get to read all the books I’ve purchased unless I take good care of myself and live a long time. It’s what motivates me to stay healthy.
As far as the art supplies go, I figure that if I purchase real art supplies I will end up making real art. This falls into the Dare to Dream category because when I go out to my art studio I end up going off in numerous directions and just playing. My latest piece is called, “Blobs In Hell”. It’s important for me to name an art piece after it’s finished, especially at this stage of my “artistic development”.
As far as my husband’s purchases he recently bought a flashlight that straps to his head and a video card for his new phone so he can take lengthy videos. Right about now someone should cue the orchestra to play, “Two Different Worlds”.
My latest purchase, which is due to arrive today, is a box of colored pens. Actually, I ordered two boxes, one metallic, which will be good for adding glitz to my creations, and one regular, which will be good for making rainbows. Only one is due to arrive today.
So I’m sitting at my desk doing important work, like reading an article on 11 things that narcissists do to good people like me, and avoiding the article on 5 signs you’re having a heart attack, when a delivery truck pulls up. I wait until the delivery person leaves so I can nonchalantly walk to the back door and retrieve my package. I don’t want to appear too anxious.
Whoa! Those must be some really long pens! Oh wait. The box is addressed to my husband. Now I will have to rehearse my quiet voice so I can casually ask, “So what did you buy?” I’ll also have to work hard to keep the edge out of my voice because for this week at least, he’s winning!
