CBA – “Next Thursday there will be tryouts for the choir. They need all the help they can get.”
Knowing that every creature on this planet (Yes, people are creatures too. Some more than others.) can use a little help now and then, I was thrilled to see a demonstration on Facebook for making homemade plant food.
I’m not saying I have trouble keeping houseplants alive. Many other people have said that for me. But now it is vital that I keep the plants around Charles, my giraffe, alive. He just looks so comfy surround by the greenery.
Plus, houseplants take toxins out of the air and give off gases that humans use. Which is more than I can say about the gases … But I digress.
The large fern to the right of Charles is my main concern. It’s dropping leaves and is supposed to be kept damp, but not too wet, and it only likes to listen to NPR. I haven’t named it yet because I hate to get too attached to something that could prove ephemeral. It got a shot of homemade plant food this morning and if things start looking better I might have to have a “Name the Fern” contest. Fern?
Peel from one banana
Coffee grounds from making your morning coffee
Egg shells from 2 or 3 eggs
3/4 cup water
Place everything into a blender and whip it good!
FULL DISCLOSURE – I’d already had a protein drink with a banana for breakfast so had to dig through my husband’s breakfast garbage for only the egg shells and coffee grounds. The resulting blended product looked a bit like sludge.
I will keep you posted on the efficacy of this plant food, unless it works so well that I’m unable to get through the foliage to my laptop. I will keep my phone nearby!
