AND NOBODY NOTICED

“If there’s nobody in your way it’s because you’re not going anywhere.”

In recent history, my history, I made some major changes in my life in an attempt to make life more simple.  One of the biggest changes was to wear the same thing every day throughout the winter months.  Every day I’d get up and grab a long-sleeved black top, a pair of black socks, and a pair of jeans.  Yes, there’d also be underwear in the mix.

Not only was this way of dressing simple, inexpensive, and stress free, it was also a lesson.  I wondered how long it would be before someone in the group that I saw and talked with every morning would notice.  Nobody noticed.  So much for being the center of the universe.

Recently I posted a picture of my new kitchen.  Did anyone notice that the faucet was installed “wrong”?  In every advertisement with this style faucet the handle is always off to the side.  When I saw that I asked myself why.  With the handle to the side I’d have my wet, dripping hand over the counter top in order to turn the faucet on or off.  If the faucet is installed with the handle to the front my hand drips into the sink.

No, water does not run all over my hand as I’m turning the faucet on, as someone suggested would happen.  The faucet is aimed off to the side to fill a sink or rinse off fruits or veggies.

The young man who put the kitchen together no longer questions my sanity over the way I want my kitchen set up.  His response to my faucet request was simply moving ahead to do it.  I like people who can think outside the box.  “Because that’s the way we’ve always done it,” doesn’t impress me.

Maybe I shouldn’t have so much caffeine before I write in the morning.  Whatever.
