“Be your own kind of beautiful.”

My dearest friend, Marilyn, lives about an hour plus drive from me.  Sometimes we meet in the middle in a town known for its art shops and an amazing restaurant where the desserts are comforting.  How else can a person describe a warm, nut-filled cake that’s topped with caramel and whipped cream.

My other favorite place to go with Marilyn is her hometown.  Marilyn knows the best re-sale shops plus the perfect dress shop.  The thing that makes this dress shop perfect is the owner.  She has a knack for stocking her shop with clothes that make women exclaim, “I am going to look so hot in this!”  Results may vary.

And then … The dress shop owner decided to close down the shop and go into another segment of the fashion industry.  Loyal customers stormed the doors the last week in order to get the high fashion duds at 75% off.  Yes, I was there.  But I also approached the owner, Patti, to ask if she would be willing to sell the curtains off her dressing rooms.  There were two dressing rooms which sported a total of 14 panels of fun!

A view of some of the panels draped over the guest bed.

For those of you who know me you also know that I’m sure gypsy blood flows in my veins.  This belief leads me to wear gypsy skirts, which are wild skirts that cause my kids to rethink if they really want to be seen in public with me.

No, I had no intention of wearing the curtains in public.  My brilliant idea is to use the panels on the two windows in my office, which would be 7 panels per window, in order to turn my office into a gypsy caravan wagon.

Only a few of my friends saw the brilliance of this plan, like my friend Bonnie.  She said the obvious, which was, “Now you’re going to need a wagon wheel in your office if it’s going to be a gypsy wagon!”  I’ve been asking around and so far one of my acquaintances (she slipped from the friend category) said they had an old tire in their backyard and I was welcome to take that.

Tomorrow I purchase the curtain rods.  And of course, the two office walls that are a pale peach are going to have to have their color adjusted.  And you thought you had fun projects on your to-do list!
