“Be somebody who makes everybody feel like somebody.”
This could have turned out to be “seemed like a good idea at the time”, but it certainly wasn’t. A few months ago I said I wanted to see the Smithsonian. Never have. This would involve a trip to Washington D.C. Aren’t you simply amazed by my brilliance! As far as the trip goes I was either going to convince my husband that, more than anything, he wanted to see art museums, or I’d simply go alone.
Then a friend and seasoned traveler, Lynn, said she’d go with. Through a series of discussions we settled on train travel. Lynn, who is not only a seasoned traveler but an amazing planner, researched Amtrak.
Not to get too wordy, let me just say that Amtrak made the trip easy. Their package included hotel, which was a 3 minute walk from the train station, and travel within D.C. on the hop on/hop off trolley. A big YES for that. The trip also included wonderful meals and an amazing staff on Amtrak.
That’s Barney. He’s scoping out the dining car to make sure people were courteously attended to. We always were.
Once in D.C. we made use of the Old Town Trolley, which made viewing the city wonderful and informative. But there’s more to D.C. if you’re willing to look beyond the usual.
D.C. is a city where a person can get fajitas served with a pickle. Wait, that’s not entirely true. Lynn doesn’t like pickles so they generally ended up on my plate.
D.C. is a city where you can cool off in multiple pools and fountains! I’m next in line to use the Reflecting Pool Spa!
There were also multiple art pieces that were just right for taking selfies! Standing amidst numerous mirrored pyramids was just such a location.
Behind the yellow stripe is Lynn, who claimed her right not to be shown online without her specific permission. That’s me, a person of little pride, wearing my typical black top. I took seven black tops with me on the trip and was easily lost in the crowd on the moonlight tour of the Memorials.
There was also the corpse flower, which smells like rotting flesh and was in full bloom while we were there! Who could be so lucky!
Best of all, we got a great price on the trip because we scheduled it during the time of year that’s generally the hottest. Due to a glitch in the atmosphere, however, the usual high 90 degree days with 100% humidity turned out to be in the upper 70’s with moderate humidity. Why? Because my heart is pure. Yes, my friends laugh too whenever I say that. But that’s my story!
