“Don’t forget to set your scale back 10 pounds tonight.”

I really enjoy the early hours of the morning.  I absolutely enjoy them more if I can slip quietly into the day with as little effort as possible.  That’s why I generally make coffee before I go to bed and store it in the fridge in jars.  It’s a wonderfully painless task to get the coffee from the microwave to my cup.

And then there’s breakfast.  No, I don’t want to cook breakfast.  I want something slightly faster than instant and I want it to be nutritious.  Good luck, grandma!

Then I discovered Fage’ yogurt, pronounced Fa-yeh!  Don’t forget the exclamation at the end.  Yes, I purchase the full fat. The darn stuff tastes like cream without the tangy bite that I generally find in other yogurts.  OMGoodness.  Better yet, it contains those live microbes that make a tummy happy.

A half cup of this yogurt is only 50 calories and contains 10 grams of protein!  Happy dance.  So this is how I prepare my breakfast.  I place a half cup of yogurt in the bottom of a jar.  Next I add 1/3 cup of frozen blueberries.  The reason I add 1/3 cup is because the 1/4 measuring cup is all gunked up with yogurt.  Then I add another 1/4 cup of yogurt.  On top of that I spoon on a bit of granola, to which I’ve added slivered almonds and golden raisins.

Golden raisins are mixed into the granola because I’ve had this box of golden raisins in my pantry for about a year and it’s time to use them.  When they’re gone my breakfast shall be raisin free.  At this point I screw the lid onto the jar and place it into the fridge.  Instant breakfast!


Yes, I can make them two at a time!

This breakfast is delicious.  It’s also more nutritious than anything I could get at a drive-up window.  Creating this combo in a non-breakable container would make it a lovely traveling companion.

Other flavors can be created by using different fruits, such as, strawberries or raspberries.  Choices and possibilities.  Two of my favorite words!

  1. I brought Fage yogurt for my lunch today, I cut up apple, top with cinnamon and then put yogurt on top and seal to edges so apple doesn’t brown. When I go to eat it I put chopped roasted almonds on top and stir. I’m with you, very delicious!
