“Individually we are one drop. Together we are an ocean.” Ryunosuke Satoro
The day that the rains came down in the town where I live! This is a picture of what was a field of grass just a few hours earlier.
So what was happening in my head as the rains came down? First of all, a sense of gratitude because, according to the forecast, the rain was over and we’d soon have a field of grass once more. Some areas of the world aren’t so lucky.
Second, the rains got my mind back to thinking about water. I’d been rather lax on hydrating myself, evidenced by a drop in energy and dry lips. What to do? I decided to look up some recipes for water. Yes, they exist!
What I found were recipes for something called Detox Water, which are supposed to do good things for the body. They’d also add flavor to my daily intake of water and maybe nudge me to drink more. I’d give it a try.
CUCUMBER LEMON WATER
A few sprigs of mint
Wash and slice the cucumber and lemon. Rinse the mint. Place cucumber, lemon, and mint into a jar. Fill the jug with water and mix. Leave it to steep overnight in the fridge. Good for a few days topping it off.
The good news is that lemons help to kick-start digestion and flush out toxins. The vitamin C in this drink will brighten up your skin. You’ll glow!
STRAWBERRY BASIL WATER
10 fresh, whole strawberries
2 lemon wedges
Freshly squeezed juice from 1/2 lemon
Handful of fresh basil leaves
Combine the ingredients in a glass container, staring gently with a wooden spoon. Add to a large jar of water and refrigerate for three to four hours to allow all the ingredients to get to know each other. Enjoy.
The good new is that strawberries are high in antioxidants, potassium, vitamin C, and other nutrients. Basil has anti-inflammatory and antibacterial properties.
The best news is that these waters taste pretty darn good. Enjoy!
