FAMILY VACATION

“We live in an age when unnecessary things are our only necessities.”  Oscar Wilde

I recently returned from a trip with my daughter and her two daughters, my granddaughters.  We went to a big city.

Let me give you a few reasons to travel with a group.  First of all, there are people to share your excitement with and to add their excitement to the mix.  I would have missed so much if there hadn’t been other voices with me to point and exclaim.

Second, traveling with other lowers the cost.  Splitting a hotel bill, lyft ride, and restaurant tab for pizza four ways makes travel a bargain. Sharing a dessert provides just enough of a sweet finish to a meal without the guilt of consuming an entire dessert.

This was a creme brûlée before four spoons attacked.  Yummy!

Travel with young family members also got me out of my rut.  They helped me find a new shade of lipstick to compliment my purple hair.  Also, they are loving enough to go out in public with a mother/grandma who has purple hair.  It’s a phase I’m going through.

And finally, travel with others, especially family, is a way to get to know those near and dear who are dear but not always near.  I got to know that my daughter is an amazing organizer, seeing bits and pieces of the trip that needed to be done and easily moving things along.

Granddaughter Miah has an amazing sense of direction.  She was our unfailing angel guide.

Granddaughter, Em, was our archivist.  She posted a short video on her Youtube site, Em At Home, Girl’s Trip.  She also posts cleaning tips (I’m inspired) and recipes.  One of her recipes actually got me eating more kale.

And finally, travel with others, especially family, is a way to get to know those near and dear who are dear but not always near.  We decided to make our girl’s trip an annual event and invite the other lady members of the family.  Where next?  I can hardly wait!
