“Mix a little foolishness with your serious plans. It is lovely to be silly at the right moment.” Horace
Slowing down helps me pay more attention to my intentions. Otherwise, my monkey mind skips between “Oh dear” and “What if!” and I begin to disastersize. (Spellcheck doesn’t like that word.)
But when I slow down I notice more and hear things around me. Sometimes they’re wonderful lessons. Today I heard a story about a young fellow who knew how to focus on his goal. Let me share.
A teacher asked one of her elementary school student what he wanted to be when he grew up. The little fellow knew and was quick to answer. “Right fielder for the New York Yankees,” he said. The teacher was wise enough not react or give advice.
Instead, she asked, “What’s your backup plan?”
Without hesitation he answered. “Left field.” You got to have a plan!
