AND STEVEN

“It is such a secret place the land of tears.”   Antoine de Saint-Exupery – The Little Prince

While talking about my family I would be remiss if I didn’t talk about my second son, Steve.  Steve was a funny, loving, and brilliant young child.  Together with his older brother, Paul, there was always something brewing.

And then …  Steve got involved with drugs and alcohol.  It started at an early age and continued to spiral him downward for, what seemed, a long time.  Through hard work and support, however, Steve found sobriety for a number of years.

Then there was an accident and a severe concussion that resulted in deep depression.  This brought Steve back to drugs and alcohol.  He saw himself as weak because he needed meds to fight his depression.

Of course, this is all very simplistic.  No story of a life is so simple.  But in the end, Steve decided to end his pain and the struggle and leave us.  He ended his life almost three years ago at the age of 51.

Complete pictures of anyone are so hard to conjure.  Besides being broken in some ways Steve was also a loving person, a brilliant musician, and an amazing father. We do our best to remember the best things about Steve.
