“The Earth without art is just Eh.”

I recently visited my high school friend, Marilyn, who now lives in Dubuque.  What I really love about our visits, besides the stops at the resale and ice-cream shops, is Marilyn’s attention to her surroundings.  She always seems to know what’s going on in her area.  On this visit she took me on a tour of the downtown area that is now graced with murals.

There are 18 murals in downtown Dubuque, created by artists from all over the country. Google, Voices Mural Project Dubuque to see them all.  Here are some.

When I asked Marilyn what the thinking was behind this project she said, “Well, we had all these blank walls.”  As good a reason as any.  And oh how lovely to walk downtown and come upon a piece of unexpected art.

Thanks for the tour, and ice cream, Marilyn!
