PUDDING BROWNIES

“All you need is love.  But a little chocolate now and then doesn’t hurt.”  Charles M Schulz

So I’m cleaning out my cupboard and I find a package of brownie mix.  I also find some saltines, dry macaroni, and instant vanilla pudding.  Sounds like the start of an experiment that could go terribly wrong.  Fear not.  I found recipes and obvious uses for a few of these ingredients.  With two of the items, however, I decided to punt.

Side note:  The found items were the result of a gift bag from a group that had little knowledge of nutrition.  Also, regular readers of my rantings and ravings probably noticed that I seldom post dessert recipes.  That’s because I seldom make dessert.  But today was going to be a dessert day/experiment.

I decided to see what would happen if I added a box of instant vanilla pudding to the brownie mix.  I splashed in a bit more water, (the brownie recipe needed water and an egg) crossed my fingers, and put the batter into the oven to bake.  The instructions warned about baking too long and set the outer limit at 20 minutes.

At 20 minutes the concoction was ready to eat with a spoon.  I gave it an additional 7 minutes.  Perfect!

These little darlings are more a fudge-like than cake-like.  They have good flavor and will definitely be a surprise in my husband’s lunch.

Bottom line – don’t be afraid to experiment.  What’s the worst thing that could happen? This advice, however, does not apply to dating and marriage.  Right!
