“Walnuts and pears you plant for your heirs.”

Walnuts are a rich source of heart-healthy monounsaturated fats and an excellent source of those hard to find omega-3 fatty acids.  The internet goes on and on about the benefits of walnuts but …

The outer skin of the walnut is bitter, and sometimes people remove it.  However, it’s also good for you so as you’re mother used to tell you, “Eat your walnuts!” or something like that.

Here’s a good way to consume walnuts because you can add so many other things to this like tomatoes and sour cream and salsa and lettuce.  Good planning!

1/2 cup walnuts soaked for about 20 minutes

6 or so oil-free sun dried tomatoes, soaked for about 20 minutes

1 cup raw almonds

2 t tamari

1/2 t smoked paprika

1/4 t garlic powder

1/4 t onion powder

pinch of cayenne pepper

Soak the walnuts and sun dried tomatoes for at least 20 minutes.  Mine soaked for about 4 hours while we went shopping.  Easy enough.  Drain.

Put everything into your food processor.  Pulse the ingredients until they’re crumbly.  If you pulse them too long you’re going to have walnut paste.  Probably good on celery.

This is a raw product.  You could roast this for about 20 to 25 minutes in a 350 degree oven.  Good stuff!

Try this in tacos or on a taco salad.  Also in a taco rollup.  Don’t forget parsley for photo shoots!
